In 2008, the board of the NRG commissioned a group of registrars and collection managers, the director of the Vereniging van Rijksgesubsidieerde Musea (VRM) and a representative from the Algemene Werkgeversvereniging Nederland (AWVN) to define the function profile of a registrar. After much deliberation, verification sessions, consultations with peers and lastly, vetting by the trade unions, we believe we have achieved a worthwhile result.
The function profile is part of the reference function manual developed by the AWVN and commissioned by the Museums Association. The description of the function of registrar with the corresponding resources is a framework around which museum-specific functions can be classified. The recognition of this function was realised through the ORBA methodology, an objective method that enables the comparison and classification of functions both within and outside the museum field. Trade unions were involved with this evaluation of the reference function (likewise the function of registrar).
